History Museum

The first installment of the Museum Project came with the opening of the History Museum in May 2003, which traces the history of Scott County from prehistoric to modern times. Several classes within the Scott High curricula are responsible for the exhibits within this museum. These classes include anthropology; American Civil War; environmental science; Appalachian studies; visual arts, as well as others. Permanent exhibits include Scott County Before Time; The Frontier Days; Scott County Goes to War; Black Gold--Black Lung--Black Death; and Death and Dying in Appalachia. The exhibits are also accompanied by many other temporary exhibits that are rotated on an annual basis.
